I'm a Stranger Here Myself - Bill Bryson I read his "A Short History of Nearly Everything" and absolutely loved it. Good thing I read it first because I never would have read anything else after this collection of whiny short columns. Actually, he "whinges" as the Brits would say. The first half of the book has a number of funny and cute stories about returning to the US. But Bryson reveals his standard, left-wing, liberal view that America is just a bad place, conservatives should be illegal, we use too many resources, we drive too much, eat too much, blah, blah... Of course the Euros are so much more sophisticated, if only we could be more like them. England is a lovely place, Cambridge especially so, but we rebelled for a reason. Don't need lessons in how we should be more like them.
